GHOST HUNTING TOOLS
Ghost hunting, or more properly stated, paranormal research requires both specialized tools and some common items. Hilber Graf doesn't recommend the hobbyist rush out and buy everything listed here. Some equipment can be expensive. You might not like to pursue this line of activity once you've experienced the "real" thing.
For the amateur who only desires a romp with the dark side, stick to the basics: a reliable flashlight with extra batteries, a decent digital camera (also with extra batteries), pens and notepad (to record your observations) and a wireless phone. Very important - NEVER go on a ghost hunt alone. Reasons should be obvious - safety in numbers and you'll need a witness to confirm any phenomenon you may encounter.
Lastly, always have a couple "glow sticks" in your pockets. These are plastic cylinders you snap, shake and they glow for several hours. Batteries will fail when least expected. Common items seen at Halloween, but are now available year-round in survival kits and at home improvement stores.
FOR THE PROS:
EMF Meter: registers electromagnetic field changes.
Temperature Sensor: checks rapid changes in area temperatures.
Small digital recorder: To capture possible EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena)
Radiation monitor: Detects potential radiation presence often asssociated with hauntings.
Video camera with infra-red abilities: Movements unseen by the naked eye are picked up by these.
There are other devices such as motion detectors, RF detectors and static electricity detectors which are used by some investigators. Online stores offer the above devices. Check out: www.ghoststore.net www.ghost-mart.com
